academic decathlon
Academic decathlon is a unique academic experience for 6th-8th graders. Junior high students are invited to join the team in the beginning of the school year. They compete in 10 challenging events, which are broken down into team and individual tests. They consist of logic, super quiz, & 8 individual events, which range from current events to science to literature. After months of preparation and team building, St. Finbar attends the Cathedral Quiz Bowl. This scrimmage helps the decathletes get a feel of how it is to compete in a smaller scale, as well as to prepare for the larger competition. In March, the decathletes compete in the Los Angeles Sports Arena among over 110 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Students learn what it means to work as a close-knit team, how to manage their time, and are challenged to grow in meaningful ways. Decathletes love to learn. They show tremendous resiliency and determination, which they carry on in their future endeavors.
