Welcome to SaintFinbar.org+++++1st Day of School: September 1, 2010++++The school calendar for the year has been updated. Click on the "School Calendar" link below.
Welcome to fourth grade! During the year, we will embark on a journey that will take us from the homes of the Chumash Indians to the Missions of Alta California. We’ll pan gold with the kings of the frontier and explore flags of the past. Our year spans across the globe along with our E-Pals and the troops stationed in Afghanistan.

During our journey, we’ll explore a variety of genres that include trips to seek live theatre performances and museum displays. We write a variety of poetic pieces, and act out our experiences.  Fourth grade is a journey that begins with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter; culminating with a Harry Potter Fair with fine Formage and Pumpkin Juice. We transform ourselves into our heroes of the past as we recreate their lives in a biography.  Our students also take notice of those in our community with time spent caroling and gift giving.

Math skills soar as we continue to practice and develop our basic math facts while building to deepen our understanding of the subject through a variety of modalities and experiences relevant to the real world.  Students begin reviewing concepts from the prior year and end with skills related to concepts with fractions, geometry, and algebra.

During fourth grade, we’ll become writers of our own newspaper, and learn to work well with our kinsmen both individually and as a team. The way in which we treat others is commonly addressed and practiced; thus incorporating the theme of teamwork into our daily practices throughout the school year. We also stay in-tune with the current events around us with weekly reports and discussions of the topics at hand. Our classroom economy with the inclusion of “mad money” glides us through the year and helps provide incentives while teaching about our banking system. Teams in their Hogwarts houses, work together to earn points by completing obstacle courses, Math Star games, and other team projects to earn money toward an end of the year auction.

Our year ultimately brings us closer to Jesus and the lives we hope to live doing His will. There is much more to what we experience during this time, but mostly, we attempt to walk in His footsteps with the actions we take and the choices we make.  So, come along on our journey! We can’t wait for you to join us!
